It's Spring again and, with the sun beginning to break through, here comes your
latest TWOJ to brighten your days even more! Once again it's a packed issue, as you will see.
I was particularly pleased with the shot I took of Jim Warren attacking his Cuban opponent
in the Paris Tournament and so I've put it nice and big on the centre pages for you to pull
out and stick up on your wall (if you can bear to destroy your magazine in the process!).
Another useful article to perhaps copy and display is the one on page 15 which details the
latest rule changes, and for those of you at the top end of British competition, page 10 shows
the new system being put in place for selecting Senior National Squad members.
Since the last mag there has been a bit less travelling for me as I've only been to the
Kano Cup in Japan and the Paris Tournament but there are always more events coming up so
I've been making the most of the lull to have a major clear out especially of old magazines.
I've limited myself to keeping just one box of each issue (apart from the ones I've actually
run out of) so anyone wanting to order any back issues might not want to leave it too long!
30 odd boxes still take up a fair bit of space mind you!
Priding myself on the quality of pictures in the magazine, I should just apologise for
the standard of the images in the article on Roy Inman's end of year coaching review (pages
28 & 29). Unfortunately I was too ill to attend myself and so have photographed the
video that was taken on the day - hence the less than sharp pictures - but I think they
still illustrate the issues in an interesting way - I hope you agree.
The technique page features that incredible Korean fighter Jeon - the first of a number
of his techniques that we will be able to look at.
Finally, it was nice to include an article on Reg Lomax, the Western Area's retiring President.
I'm always keen to hear of the achievements of hard working people in the world of British
judo so if you have anyone in your Club or Area who deserves a little extra recognition
please let me know - sometimes there might just be room for a story on the news pages sometimes
we can make an entire article but please contact me. Email is great (saves me typing it
out again!) but a letter or even a phone call will do and relevant photos are always good
to see as well. So, enjoy the magazine and I look forward to hearing from you!
