Well a little late in the day may I wish you all a very happy New
Year and welcome you to the winter issue of TWOJ. This issue has a
particularly British flavour, covering some of the most important
events in our calendar for players of all age groups. Junior nationals,
National Youth Trials and National Grand Finals. Britain also hosted
the finals of the Men's European Team Championships and did it in
style. A pre event visit from HRH Prince Michael of Kent and the fantastic
Inner temple location of the post competition dinner provided a uniquely
British feel and the celebratory atmosphere amongst all those present
was a tribute to the friendships that judo can inspire between nationalities.
I felt proud to be a part of it.
On a personal note you might like to know that my judo pictures are
well thought of even outside our sport! In a recent photographic competition
held by the British Institute of Professional Photographers my shot
of James Warren throwing Arencibia (CUB) featured in issue 34, took
second place in the photo journalism section. Tony Freeman BIPP President
awarding me, my photojournalism prize.
Now... if your best friend is reading this over your shoulder please
tell them to get a copy of their own! They don't have to wait and
subscribe with their licence, they can easily do it via the TWOJ
website www.twoj.org The magazine lives or dies on the strength
of the numbers who subscribe and it would be good to bump them up
a bit. If you are a club coach I'd really appreciate it if you could
do a "sell" on the mag amongst your club members - please
contact me if you need any help. Well I'll leave you now to read
on - and as ever - ENJOY!
